The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has launched a nationwide manhunt for four individuals accused of engaging in illegal gold smuggling.
The wanted suspects have been identified as Abdul Karim, Sadique Abubakar, Muhammed Afsal Puth Puthalan, and Muhammed Nandoli Rafeeq.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, the four form part of a larger group of seven people allegedly involved in the illicit trade. Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, September 16, he revealed that three of the suspects have already been arrested and are currently in the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Mr Gyamfi announced that a bounty of GH₵1 million has been placed on each of the remaining four suspects, bringing the total bounty to GH₵4 million.
“We have an arrest warrant for all of them; they are wanted by the police and the GoldBod. If you have any information about them, you can report to the nearest police station or the GoldBod head office. We have a bounty of GH₵1 million on each of them,” he said.
The Gold Board CEO underscored the government’s commitment to cracking down on illegal gold smuggling, stressing that such activities undermine the economy and rob the nation of much-needed revenue.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement with credible information that could lead to the swift arrest of the wanted men.
