Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has secured his place in Ghana’s football folklore by leading the national team to their second consecutive FIFA World Cup qualification.
Ghana sealed their spot at the 2026 World Cup after edging Comoros 1–0 in a tense final Group I qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.
This remarkable achievement makes Otto Addo the first coach to guide Ghana to back-to-back World Cup qualifications, having also masterminded the Black Stars’ return to the global stage at the 2022 tournament in Qatar after the team missed out on the 2018 edition in Russia.
The 2026 tournament will mark Ghana’s fifth appearance at football’s biggest event. Among African nations, only Cameroon (8), Morocco (7), Tunisia (7), and Nigeria (6) have featured more times at the World Cup.
With qualification secured, Otto Addo and his technical team will now focus on fine-tuning the squad for the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana’s return to the world stage once again under Addo’s leadership has ignited optimism among fans, with hopes that the Black Stars can build on their impressive World Cup legacy.
