OSP Probes Alleged GH¢4m Bribe to DVLA Boss, Council of State Member Over Gold Deal

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has invited the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, for questioning over his explosive claim that he rejected a GH¢4 million bribe meant to halt the rollout of the Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy.

Mr Kotey made the revelation in a recent media interview, stating that certain powerful individuals attempted to influence him to abandon the digital registration initiative — a reform aimed at tackling vehicle-related fraud, improving traceability, and enhancing road safety nationwide.

In a swift response, the OSP confirmed that it had taken notice of the revelation and was seeking further clarification and evidence from the DVLA boss to substantiate the allegation and help identify those allegedly behind the bribery attempt.

“The Office has invited Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey to provide details regarding the alleged bribery offer and to assist in identifying the persons purportedly involved,” a source within the OSP disclosed.

The development has stirred public interest, with many commending the DVLA CEO for his stance while calling for swift investigations to uncover any network of influence peddling behind the failed attempt.

Meanwhile, the OSP has also opened a separate corruption probe involving a sitting member of the Council of State, who is being investigated for alleged corruption and corruption-related offences tied to gold trading activities.

According to sources close to the investigation, the probe centres on claims that the council member abused his position to influence the granting of a gold licence to a private company in which he allegedly holds undisclosed business interests.

The OSP’s dual investigations underscore its renewed focus on tackling high-profile corruption within public institutions and state-affiliated entities.
