OSP charged 6 individuals with payroll fraud and corruption

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has charged six individuals in the High Court in Tamale, Northern Region, for involvement in payroll fraud and corruption, allegedly causing significant financial loss to the state.

The accused—Yakubu Tahidu, Abdulai Abukari Sadic, Sammy Suuk, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, and Osman Issahaku—face 17 counts of corruption, stemming from a referral by National Security.

Yakubu Tahidu, though no longer a teacher, is accused of continuing to receive salaries while employed at another government agency. Tahidu had vacated his position as a teacher at Balogu M/A JHS to join the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC). Despite this, it is alleged that he unlawfully continued receiving salaries.

The remaining accused individuals are charged with facilitating or failing to prevent the fraudulent payments.

Abdulai Abukari Sadic, the Yendi Municipal IPPD Coordinator, and Sammy Suuk, a Schools Improvement Support Officer, are accused of assisting in the validation of salary payments for Tahidu, despite his change in employment.

Mohammed Yusif Jay, the former headteacher of Balogu M/A JHS, allegedly validated salaries for Tahidu even after being reassigned to another school.

Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, an Assistant Chief Accounts Technician at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, is accused of processing the fraudulent payments.

Finally, Osman Issahaku, the current headteacher of Balogu M/A JHS, is accused of continuing to validate the irregular payments, perpetuating the fraudulent scheme.

The OSP’s charges are part of an ongoing effort to combat corruption and payroll fraud within government institutions. The accused individuals are expected to face legal proceedings in the coming weeks as the case unfolds.
