NPP to Stage Demo On Sept 23 Over ‘Arrest’ of Party Executives

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to protest what it describes as “state-sponsored harassment” by the Ghana Police Service against some of its members.

The announcement was made by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.

The decision comes in the wake of the remand of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC. An Accra Circuit Court ordered him to remain in police custody for two weeks to allow prosecutors more time for investigations.

Abronye was arrested on Monday, September 8, over what police described as “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” He has since remained in custody.

Reacting to the development, Salam Mustapha wrote:
“On Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”

The planned protest is expected to draw large numbers of NPP supporters, with the youth wing insisting it will resist what it sees as politically motivated actions by state institutions.

Meanwhile, the party is also contending with other high-profile legal challenges. Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is under investigation for alleged fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. Other party affiliates have also been arrested in recent weeks over separate cases.
