The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially fixed Saturday, January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The decision was reached during a pivotal National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, and announced by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.
“The Committee also spoke about the time for our presidential primaries. And again, the Committee agrees that that decision does not warrant amendment of our Constitution. And the National Council today also made the decision that the date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026,” Kodua revealed.
The announcement sets the stage for an intense and highly anticipated internal race, expected to draw interest from both seasoned party stalwarts and fresh contenders eager to lead the NPP into the next political era.
Party insiders say nomination guidelines, timelines for campaign activities, and a strict code of conduct for aspirants will be outlined and made public in the coming weeks.
The NEC has assured the NPP grassroots and the wider public of a transparent, fair, and credible process in line with the party’s democratic principles.
