The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken sweeping disciplinary action against 16 of its members in the Pusiga and Tempane constituencies in the Upper East Region, following various acts of misconduct during the 2024 general elections.
In a statement dated August 1, 2025, and signed by Upper East Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo, the party confirmed that the sanctions follow a comprehensive investigation initiated by the Regional Disciplinary Committee on January 25, 2025.
The probe, which included formal hearings in March and concluded with a report in June, has led to the removal, suspension, and banning of several constituency executives and grassroots members.
Summary of Key Sanctions:
- Sawuda Bilgumsey, the 2nd Vice Chairman of the Pusiga Constituency, has been removed from office and banned indefinitely from holding any party position until she refunds funds deemed misappropriated.
- Six executives, including 1st Vice Chairman Musah Awudu and Treasurer Jacob Akazusah, have been banned from holding any party office for five years.
- One constituency coordinator has been dismissed and barred for four years from assuming any leadership position.
- Eight other members, comprising polling station executives and grassroots activists, have been suspended from party roles for three years.
- Five individuals, including Salifu Ibn Adams, the Constituency Research and Elections Officer, were exonerated and cleared of all allegations after due process.
The party stressed that all actions taken are in strict adherence to its constitution and internal disciplinary framework, designed to reinforce integrity and accountability within the party structure.
“These decisions are essential for restoring discipline and ensuring loyalty and credibility at all levels of the party,” the statement noted.
The NPP added that all positions left vacant as a result of the sanctions will be filled through procedures outlined in the party’s constitution to maintain operational continuity.
