The Minority Caucus in Parliament, made up of members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has boycotted a three-day orientation program for members of the 9th Parliament, currently ongoing at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho.
According to the NPP MPs, the choice of venue is politically motivated and comes at an unjustifiable financial cost.
Their decision to abstain was formally communicated to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on the night of Friday, February 28.
Speaking at the opening of the program, Speaker Bagbin expressed disappointment over the boycott, describing it as regrettable and unnecessary.
He defended the choice of the venue, explaining that a thorough assessment was conducted before selecting Volta Serene Hotel based on cost, facilities, and suitability.
Despite the absence of the minority, the orientation program began as scheduled and is set to continue until Monday, March 3, 2025.
