NPP’s 2024 election defeat: Committee presents investigative report to national leadership

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly distanced itself from recent remarks by two of its regional chairmen, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (popularly known as Wontumi) of Ashanti and Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) of Bono, concerning the party’s presidential primaries.

According to the party, the statements made by the two chairmen do not reflect its official position.

Wontumi had alleged that the January 31, 2026, date for the primaries was chosen to favour a specific aspirant, while Abronye claimed he had the authority to compile the Bono Regional album and would prevent certain individuals from voting.

In a statement issued on September 28 and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party dismissed the assertions, stressing that no individual, regardless of their position, has unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.

“The process of compiling the albums is governed by strict compliance procedures,” the statement said, adding that the National Secretariat will issue clear and transparent guidelines in due course to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the exercise.

It urged stakeholders, particularly polling station executives, to disregard the comments, describing them as misleading.

The NPP explained that the January 31 date was unanimously agreed upon by the National Council after “exhaustive deliberations in the supreme interest of the party.”

“The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028,” the statement read.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and internal democracy, ensuring that all electoral processes will be conducted with the highest standards of integrity.
