The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the temporary suspension of the strike action embarked on by its staff under the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), clearing the path for the full resumption of registration and identification services across Ghana starting Monday, June 30, 2025.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of the NIA’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, the authority stated that the decision follows extensive engagements with key stakeholders, including:
- The National Labour Commission (NLC)
- The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC)
- The Ministry of Finance
- Leadership of the PSWU
“Management acknowledges and appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and wishes to assure all staff that their legitimate concerns remain a priority and will continue to receive the urgent attention they deserve,” the statement noted.
The announcement brings an end to several days of service disruptions that hindered access to national ID registration, card replacements, and updates — affecting thousands of Ghanaians.
The NIA expressed sincere regret over the inconvenience caused during the industrial action and extended gratitude to the public for its patience and understanding during the challenging period.
“All NIA offices and registration centres across the country will resume full operations on Monday, 30th June 2025,” the authority confirmed.
The NIA is now urging the public to take advantage of the resumed operations to access all ID-related services, including:
- Ghana Card registrations
- Card replacements
- Data updates
- Collection of unclaimed cards
The statement also reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to delivering “quality, efficient, and reliable identification services” in fulfilment of its national mandate to ensure every Ghanaian has access to secure and trusted identity systems.
