The Grassroots Association of the National Democratic Congress (GA-NDC) has issued a strong condemnation of what it calls a “brazen act of lawlessness” following the unlawful invasion and forced closure of the Bekwai District Office of the Forestry Commission on Monday, July 28, 2025.
In a press release signed by its National Coordinator, Mathieu Kwao Bentho, the GA-NDC described the incident—carried out by individuals falsely claiming to be National Security operatives—as a direct assault on Ghana’s institutional integrity and democratic principles.
“This represents not only a dangerous affront to the rule of law but also undermines the credibility of our national security agencies,” the statement read.
According to the Association, the illegal takeover disrupted critical public services and forest conservation efforts managed by the Forestry Commission—an agency responsible for safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
The GA-NDC further warned that such impersonations pose serious threats to institutional security and public trust. “The use of false security credentials to intimidate public servants and disrupt operations is a calculated attempt to undermine state authority. It must not go unpunished,” the group insisted.
The Association threw its weight behind Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel A. Jinapor, who has already condemned the invasion and called for immediate legal action against the perpetrators.
It outlined four urgent demands:
- Immediate investigations to identify and arrest all individuals involved.
- Swift prosecution under charges including impersonation, unlawful assembly, and interference with state institutions.
- Enhanced institutional security across government offices to prevent future breaches.
- Restoration of normal operations at the Bekwai Forestry Commission Office to resume essential public services.
The GA-NDC also praised the rapid response of legitimate state actors, including Deputy Regional Security Liaison Officer Ivan Bilson, who visited the affected office to assess the situation and ensure appropriate follow-up.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic stability, the GA-NDC urged all Ghanaians to be vigilant and report suspicious activities that may compromise national security or institutional operations.
“The unlawful invasion of the Bekwai District Office must not be tolerated. Justice delayed in such cases only emboldens others to engage in similar acts of impunity,” the group stressed.
It concluded by calling on law enforcement agencies to prioritise the case, deliver justice without delay, and ensure that Ghana’s public institutions are shielded from further acts of intimidation and false authority.
