Nana Ama McBrown Denies Allegations Over Suzzy Williams’ Death

Renowned media personality and actress Nana Ama McBrown has broken her silence on decades-old accusations that she played a role in the untimely death of actress Suzzy Williams.

Suzzy Williams, one of Ghana’s most prominent actresses at the time, tragically passed away in a car accident in September 2005.

Her death shocked the nation, as she was at the peak of her career, dominating the movie industry with her talent and charisma.

Nana Ama McBrown, who was just beginning her acting career at the time, has been plagued by allegations suggesting she was responsible for Suzzy’s death to “take her shine.” These rumours, though unsubstantiated, have lingered for nearly 20 years.

In an emotional conversation on Onua Showtime on January 25, 2025, McBrown finally opened up about the accusations, detailing her relationship with Suzzy and the impact of the persistent rumours.

“Suzzy and I were often paired together in movies because we had similar looks and chemistry on screen. She was like a sister to me,” McBrown said. She recalled how they worked together on productions by Abdul Salam Mumuni and other shows like Tentacles, adding that Suzzy was the bigger star at the time.

“At that time, Suzzy was hotter and more successful than I was. Her presence in Accra, where the entertainment industry was booming, was undeniable. I was still finding my feet,” McBrown explained.

McBrown vividly recounted the moment she learnt of Suzzy’s death. “I had just returned from a trip to Italy and was in a Ford bus heading home. I heard the news while on the bus and was in complete shock,” she said.

She immediately called veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo to confirm the news. “He told me it was true and mentioned he was standing by her body at the mortuary. Suzzy didn’t have serious injuries—just a few scratches on her chest. But the loss was devastating.”

Soon after Suzzy’s passing, rumours began to circulate, accusing McBrown of using spiritual means to harm her colleague out of jealousy. These accusations, McBrown revealed, have haunted her for years.

“It wasn’t long before I started hearing accusations that I had killed Suzzy,” she said. “People claimed I went to a juju man to eliminate her, but I challenge anyone who has evidence of this to come forward and speak. I have never done such a thing.”

McBrown dismissed the idea of any rivalry between them, emphasising that they came from different cultural backgrounds. “Suzzy was Ewe, and I’m Asante. How could an Asante woman like me have done something like that to her? At that time, we didn’t even know what competition was.”

The actress admitted that the allegations have taken a significant emotional toll on her over the years. “It hurts, and to this day, people still accuse me. But I leave it to God. Suzzy was someone I respected and loved. These rumours are deeply painful.”

McBrown concluded by reaffirming her innocence and calling for an end to the baseless accusations. She also used the opportunity to celebrate Suzzy Williams’ legacy, describing her as a trailblazer and an icon who paved the way for many in Ghana’s entertainment industry.

“I will always cherish the moments we shared. Suzzy’s memory deserves to be honoured, not tarnished with false allegations,” she said.
