My Dedication to Our Beloved Country Remains Unwavering—Former IGP Dampare

IGP George Akufo-Dampare

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to Ghana despite his exit from office.

In a statement following his removal, he emphasised that his passion for serving the nation remains strong.

“As I transition from office, my dedication to our beloved country remains unwavering. I am enthusiastic and ready to serve in any capacity that contributes to Ghana’s progress,” he stated.

Dampare’s removal was announced in a press statement issued on Thursday, March 13, 2025, by the Minister for Government Communications.

His departure marks the end of a tenure that saw key policing reforms, improved public trust, and strategic measures to enhance security operations across the country.

Expressing gratitude, Dampare acknowledged the immense support he received from Ghanaians, saying he was overwhelmed by the “considerable show of love and support” from people across the country and beyond.

He particularly thanked former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him to the high office, making history as the youngest IGP in the Fourth Republic, and appreciated President John Dramani Mahama for their brief but cordial working relationship.

He also extended appreciation to religious and traditional leaders for their wisdom and prayers, sister security agencies for their cooperation, and civil society organisations for their constructive engagement during his tenure. Additionally, he acknowledged the international community and various diplomatic missions for their support, reviews, and encouragement.

Reflecting on his 35-year journey in the Ghana Police Service, Dampare recounted his rise from a general constable to becoming the nation’s top cop.

He noted that serving in various capacities—including as Director-General of multiple departments—prepared him for the leadership role he eventually assumed.

“As Inspector-General of Police, I had the privilege of leading a committed force that worked tirelessly to uphold security, law, and order in our country,” he noted, commending the dedication of the rank and file of the Ghana Police Service.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to Ghana, pledging his continued service to the nation with “discipline, honour, and integrity.”
