My Appointments Are Based On Merit And Competence- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the contributions and talents of indigenes from the Volta Region in his government’s appointments, stating that the process will be guided by merit, competence, and regional balance.

The President made this pledge during his “Thank You” tour in Ho, following concerns raised over the perceived exclusion of a Ho Central indigene from his recent ministerial appointments. The dissatisfaction reportedly led to the vandalism of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in Ho earlier this week.

Addressing a gathering, President Mahama acknowledged the region’s long-standing support for his leadership and party, noting that their expectations were valid.

“I also recognise the anticipation of appointments from this region, and as has been said, so far so good. Let me assure you that your contributions and talents have not been overlooked,” he said.

He further underscored the principles guiding appointments under his administration, stating, “Appointments will be guided by principles of merit, competence, regional balance, gender equity, and availability to serve.”

The President assured residents of his commitment to ensuring that the Volta Region would not be sidelined in governance or national development, reiterating his focus on addressing the region’s long-standing challenges.

“The Volta Region has long been a victim of unfulfilled promises, but as I said, I assure you that this era of neglect will end under this administration. I do not doubt that the people of the Volta Region possess the resources and will to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of our nation,” President Mahama remarked.

The President’s comments were met with optimism as residents expressed hope that his assurances would translate into tangible action. Stakeholders also called for calm and urged the public to trust in the President’s vision for inclusivity and development.
