MTN Ghana CFO Urges Women Entrepreneurs to Embrace E-Commerce for Business Growth

The Chief Finance Officer of MTN Ghana, Antoinette Kwofie, has called on women-led businesses in Ghana to upskill digitally and take full advantage of e-commerce platforms to grow their enterprises and reach global markets.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) Ghana Impact Dinner, held on April 27, 2025, at Fiesta Residences in Cantonments, Ms Kwofie emphasised the importance of digital transformation in scaling businesses beyond traditional boundaries.

The event, themed “Strutting into Global Markets: Utilising Traditional & Venture Capital Finance for Business Leverage”, brought together female entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and stakeholders to deliberate on key issues surrounding finance, regional trade, investor engagement, and enterprise development.

During a panel discussion, Antoinette Kwofie pointed out a notable gap in the digital engagement of women-led businesses. While over 60% of such businesses use social media platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram for marketing and sales, only about 25% make use of structured e-commerce platforms—limiting their potential for growth and market expansion.

“Many women are fearful of online fraud, but adopting secure payment systems and integrating e-commerce into business operations can significantly expand reach and drive scale,” she said. “By embedding secure payment links into their websites and utilising global e-commerce platforms, women entrepreneurs can unlock enormous growth opportunities.”

She further encouraged women entrepreneurs to improve their digital skills and financial literacy, highlighting the availability of support programmes for capacity building. “I challenge every woman-led SME to deepen their understanding of digital platforms. It’s an investment that will pay off by widening your customer base and strengthening your business,” she added.

The AWLO Ghana Impact Dinner served as a platform to inspire and empower women through shared insights, mentorship, and actionable strategies.

AWLO, founded in 2009, is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to redefining the role of African women in leadership through training, mentoring, coaching, and visibility initiatives.
