A mobile money vendor, 33-year-old Augustine Mensah, has been shot and killed by unknown assailants in Manso-Asamang, Amansie West District.
Mensah was reportedly contacted by a customer for a late-night transaction on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. After attending to the customer, he was ambushed and shot while making his way home.
A passerby who found him critically injured rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains have been transferred to St. Martin’s Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The incident comes just two weeks after another mobile money vendor, Patricia Nimako, was shot and killed at her shop in Krofrom, Kumasi. Despite her burial on February 27, 2025, no arrests have been made, leaving her family frustrated and demanding justice.
The recent murder has sparked fear among mobile money operators and residents, who are urging authorities to enhance security measures. An opinion leader in Manso-Asamang, Stephen Agyei, expressed sorrow over the incident and called for swift police intervention.
Police have launched investigations into Mensah’s murder, urging the public to provide any relevant information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators.
