The Manhyia Palace has announced a new date of December 13, 2025, for the final funeral rites of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. The ceremony was initially scheduled for December 6, 2025.
The decision followed a meeting held at the Otumfuo Saamanhene Palace on Monday, November 10, 2025, during which a new funeral committee, chaired by Dadiesoabahene, was constituted to oversee the preparations and coordination of the rites.
During the deliberations, Ernestina Akosua Brempomaa, sister of the late musician, requested a postmortem examination, citing suspicions of possible foul play in her brother’s death. She appealed for the burial and funeral to be postponed until the autopsy results were available to determine the exact cause of death.
In response, the chiefs ruled that the postmortem request would be handled by the police authorities but confirmed December 13 as the final date for the funeral ceremonies. They further urged the family to remain united and work together to ensure a dignified and peaceful farewell for the iconic artist.
On another matter, the Palace also addressed the invocation of the Great Oath (Ntamkɛseɛ) by Akosua Brempomaa. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has pardoned her for the act but advised her to avoid such actions in the future.
The upcoming funeral at Kumasi is expected to draw massive public attention, as fans, musicians, and dignitaries prepare to celebrate the life and musical legacy of Daddy Lumba, whose influence shaped Ghana’s highlife music for more than four decades.
