The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested Benjamin Owusu, 35, for staging a fake robbery and kidnapping incident at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano.
According to police reports, on September 3, 2025, Owusu sent a distress text to a complainant, claiming he was under attack in his home. When officers arrived, he was missing, though bloodstains were found on the floor of his bedroom. Forensic analysis later confirmed the stains were not human blood.
Investigations showed that Owusu discarded the SIM card used to send the false message but replaced it and made calls traced to Elubo in the Western Region on September 5. Further intelligence led to his arrest at a hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on September 24.
During interrogation, Owusu confessed to slaughtering a duck and using its blood to stage the crime scene. Police say he concocted the story to cover up his inability to account for money belonging to his employer.
The police, in a statement issued on Thursday, confirmed Owusu will be arraigned after investigations conclude.
The Command commended the public for supporting his arrest and issued a stern warning:
“Such acts will not be tolerated. Anyone who fakes crimes to mislead police investigations will face the full rigours of the law.”
