Ghanaian spiritual duo Mystic Twins, made up of McMaine and McKenzie, have sparked controversy following comments suggesting that highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s legacy would have suffered had he lived any longer.
Appearing on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with host Kwame Dadzie, the twins claimed, “If Daddy Lumba had lived up to 70 or 80, his name would have been spoilt. Legends don’t live for long. He lived too long.”
The statement has drawn mixed reactions from fans and music lovers, with many questioning the spiritual basis for such a declaration.
The Mystic Twins, known privately as Nana Akwasi Agyemang Panyin (McMaine) and Nana Akwasi Agyemang Kakra (McKenzie), suggested that spiritual forces protect the legacies of great artists by not allowing them to live beyond a certain age.
They claimed Lumba, who died at age 59 on Saturday, July 26, 2025, had already become the subject of “negative stories” and implied that further years would have tainted his status.
While speaking on spirituality in the music industry, the twins also took aim at so-called prophets, branding many as “emotional opportunists” who exploit public figures.
Reacting to recent death prophecies targeting celebrities, they dismissed such predictions as ineffective. “No fake prophecy can take out an artist before their time,” they said, referencing a recent claim about dancehall star Shatta Wale by Counsellor DY Donkor.
“When the time comes, he’ll go—but not through fake prophecies,” the duo asserted.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, remains an icon in Ghana’s music scene, credited with transforming highlife and influencing generations of musicians. His death was confirmed by a family representative through DLFM, his radio station.
