The Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, has reaffirmed his commitment to reviving Okwahu United Football Club and restoring it to the Ghana Premier League.
Addressing Kwahu indigenes and supporters at Abossey Okai in Accra, popularly known as Mountain Three, Daasebre urged fans to rekindle the spirit of Asase Aban in support of the club ahead of the new season.
“We are known as Asase Aban for a reason, and I have the conviction that this football season will be the season for our beloved club to reclaim its past glory as it returns to the Premiership,” he declared.
The Kwahuhene explained that the stakeholder meeting was part of efforts to mobilise Kwahu citizens worldwide to back the club financially and morally. He revealed that plans were underway, in collaboration with the Kwahu Traditional Council, to secure a suitable stadium for Okwahu United’s home matches—an initiative he believes will be critical to the club’s bid for promotion.
Daasebre also emphasised the importance of investing in young talents to build a solid foundation for the future. He noted that the technical team and management were confident of success if given the right financial support.
As part of his contribution, Daasebre presented 200 replica jerseys to management to be sold in aid of the club’s operations.
The General Manager of Okwahu United, Nana Kwame Dankwa, expressed gratitude to the Kwahuhene for prioritising the club since his enstoolment eight months ago. He highlighted several interventions, including a fundraising dinner dance at Daasebre’s outdooring, chairing the club’s first-ever National Supporters’ General Meeting at Mpraeso, and personally covering the club’s financial obligations to date.
“Daasebre has charged management to secure a suitable home venue while work continues at the Mpraeso Brighton Park,” Nana Dankwa disclosed.
He further urged supporters to rally behind the team in the coming season, stressing that their presence and commitment would be vital to fulfilling the Kwahuhene’s vision of restoring Okwahu United to the limelight of Ghanaian football.
Founded in 1975, Okwahu United remains one of Ghana’s most historic football clubs, boasting a legacy of producing stars such as Anthony Yeboah and C.K. Akonnor and clinching the MTN FA Cup in 1986 and 1994. Despite these achievements, Asase Aban has struggled in recent years, notably suffering a humiliating 31–1 defeat to Nania FC and finishing third in the just-ended Division One Zone Three League behind Hohoe United and Port City FC.
