President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to complete the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project in Kumasi by the end of 2026, promising relief to traders and residents who have long lamented the market’s state of disrepair.
The market, initiated in 2007, has remained incomplete for over a decade and has since deteriorated into a haven for criminals and reptiles, sparking safety and economic concerns among the local community.
During his Thank-You Tour of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, July 16, President Mahama toured the project site and reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s commitment to reviving dormant public infrastructure projects.
“In our manifesto, we have something called the Market Enhancement Programme, in which we have picked 18 markets in Ghana that we are going to structure,” he said. “So I have asked the mayor to write to the vice president and add Krofrom so that the project can be completed for good marketing.”
He added, “I believe that by the end of 2026, Krofrom Market will be completed.”
The president’s remarks were met with excitement from traders and residents who have long waited for progress on the project.
Market Queen, Adwenehemaa Nana Sakina, expressed gratitude to the President and praised his vision and dedication to the welfare of traders. “We believe President Mahama is the only one who can complete these abandoned market projects,” she said, assuring him of the continued support of market women for the NDC.
