‘Juju’ Doesn’t Work in Boxing-Bukom Banku

Popular Ghanaian boxer and social media personality Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has dismissed claims that traditional spiritual practices, commonly referred to as juju, play a role in determining a boxer’s success in the ring.

Speaking on The Real Talk Podcast hosted by Elizabeth Essuman, the former WBO Africa light heavyweight champion, who once held an impressive undefeated record of 28 wins with 21 knockouts, stressed that boxing is strictly about discipline, skill, and preparation.

“Honestly, I don’t think anyone can just wake up, go into the ring with juju and come out victorious,” he said. “You have to train effectively, be prepared and understand that this is a sport where only victors win.”

Bukom Banku, who previously hosted Bukom Banku Live on GhOne TV, emphasised that success in the sport depends on hard work, rigorous training, and the ability to outwit an opponent with strategy and calculation.

The outspoken boxer also waded into the controversy surrounding Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, the self-proclaimed pastor and former fetish priestess who was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison for defrauding hundreds of people in a fake “money doubling” scheme.

While acknowledging the severity of her crimes, Bukom Banku expressed sympathy for her, arguing that the sentence was excessive. “I think 15 years is too much, especially for a woman. She should have received a lesser sentence,” he said.
