Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Kwaw Kese is taking his business ambitions beyond the music industry, announcing plans to launch a poultry farm under President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship ‘Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti’ agricultural initiative.
The government programme, designed to revitalise Ghana’s poultry sector, is set to officially launch later in October 2025, after a postponement from July. It seeks to drastically cut the country’s $300 million annual poultry import bill by empowering 55,000 households and commercial farmers to produce poultry domestically.
Kwaw Kese revealed his intention to invest in poultry farming during an interview on Daybreak Hitz, citing the initiative’s incentives and infrastructure support as key motivators.
“I do maize and cassava farming. I am ready to jump into the ‘Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti’ to start a poultry farm, so the government can help me,” he said.
He envisions his farm contributing fresh poultry and eggs to local markets, with potential integration into hatcheries, feed production, and distribution networks.
The government has already procured day-old chicks and battery cages, with beneficiary lists being finalised ahead of the official rollout.
Kwaw Kese emphasised that his venture is not just a business move but also a job creation effort, particularly aimed at empowering young people through skills development in modern poultry farming.
The ‘Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti’ initiative is a central pillar of the Mahama administration’s strategy to boost local agribusiness, reduce imports, and strengthen food security across the country.
