President John Dramani Mahama has officially relieved Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare of his duties and appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as his replacement.
The announcement was made in a media advisory issued by presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu on March 13.
“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the Inspector-General of Police.
He replaces COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare,” the statement read.
COP Yohunu, a seasoned police officer with forty years of service, is expected to spearhead efforts to modernise and transform the Ghana Police Service.
