Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to safeguard the unity of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), assuring members that he would never act in a way that creates confusion or division within the party.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025, after formally filing his nomination to contest in the party’s flagbearer race, Dr Bawumia stressed the need for cohesion as the NPP gears up for the 2028 general elections.
“Our true opponent is not within. “Our true opponent is out there,” he told the cheering crowd. “We need unity to win, and I promise you that, just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party. If there were to be anyone to create problems in the NPP, it wouldn’t be Dr Bawumia.”
The former vice president also outlined aspects of his vision for Ghana, including measures to expand the economy and create sustainable jobs.
He urged fellow aspirants to conduct their campaigns as a family contest, reminding them that the NPP’s ultimate goal is victory at the national level.
The party has set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer to lead the NPP into the 2028 polls.
