Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has described the late Edward Omane Boamah as one of the most loyal politicians Ghana has ever had.
Speaking at the Defence Ministry on August 11, 2025, after signing the book of condolence for the former minister, Mr Nitiwul recalled first meeting Dr Boamah in 2003, describing him as “very intelligent, very affable, very sharp… and very passionate about this country and what we need to do to move it forward.”
“I wasn’t surprised when the President appointed him as Defence Minister,” he said. “I knew him as very loyal, and loyalty is very important to occupy this seat, the seat I occupied for eight years.”
Mr Nitiwul stressed that the role requires loyalty to the President, the constitution, and the state, as well as the ability to work effectively with the Ghana Armed Forces. “He couldn’t have gotten a better person than Dr Omane Boamah,” he added.
Reflecting on the tragic helicopter crash that claimed Dr Boamah’s life, Mr Nitiwul said he became deeply concerned when reports emerged that the aircraft could not be traced. “I knew the implications—that somebody important would’ve been in the helicopter,” he said, calling the incident “a big tragedy.”
“…let’s all come together to mourn these eight heroes,” he urged. “I still refuse to believe Omane is gone forever, but one thing I believe is that Omane is at the right place.”
