The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has lauded the party’s Members of Parliament for their unwavering commitment and dedication despite serving as the minority in the 9th Parliament.
Speaking after a meeting with the MPs on Wednesday, April 2, Dr Bawumia expressed profound gratitude for their resilience and hard work, likening them to the formidable minority of the 2nd Parliament led by the late J.H. Mensah.
“I call you the Mighty Minority of the 88 Infantry Battalion, commanded by Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin,” he remarked, emphasising the MPs’ determination in defending the party’s interests in challenging circumstances.
Dr Bawumia acknowledged the crucial role played by the MPs during the 2024 election campaign, commending their dedication to the party’s cause.
He assured them of his continued appreciation and promised a visit to their constituencies to personally thank grassroots supporters.
“You were in the trenches with me and the party throughout the difficult moments of the campaign, and I don’t take it for granted that you have stayed loyal to the NPP and to me, going out to battle for us,” Dr Bawumia stated.
The NPP presidential candidate’s remarks have been met with applause from party faithful who view the acknowledgement as a morale boost for the MPs as they continue to hold the government accountable.
Dr Bawumia’s commendation comes at a crucial time when the minority caucus faces heightened expectations to represent the interests of Ghanaians in the legislature while preparing for the next election.
