“Her Words Were Never Reckless And Was My Confidante”- Otumfuo Pays Tribute to Late Asantehemaa

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has delivered a moving tribute to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, hailing her as a trusted confidante whose wisdom and counsel guided him through the most demanding moments of kingship.

In a tribute read on his behalf by business magnate Sir Sam Jonah during the Dote Yie of the late Queen Mother at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo described her as more than a royal partner in leadership—she was a sister, a mother, and his most reliable adviser.

“For me personally, she was my confidante. In moments when the burdens of kingship pressed heavily upon me, I could turn to her not as the Asantehemaa but as my sister, menua panin. She had the rare ability to speak to me as both a mother and a friend,” the Asantehene said.

He emphasised that her counsel was always marked by depth, maturity, and careful reflection.

“Her words were never reckless, never shallow. They were words that came from a deep well of experience and wisdom,” he noted.

The solemn ceremony attracted a distinguished assembly of Ghanaian leaders and dignitaries, including former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, all of whom joined the Asantehene in honouring the late Queen Mother’s enduring legacy.

The late Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who reigned as Asantehemaa, was celebrated not only for her role in preserving the traditions of Asanteman but also for her unyielding dedication to nurturing unity, peace, and stability within the Golden Stool.
