The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has launched a scathing critique of some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), accusing them of complacency, inefficiency, and dereliction of duty.
Speaking at a media engagement with MMDCEs in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Madam Ocloo said the poor performance of certain local government heads was undermining the government’s efforts to tackle the region’s most pressing challenges.
“Let me go straight to say that I am disappointed at the level of inefficiency and complacency exhibited by some of our chief executives. At this stage, excuses are nothing but an embarrassment to the people we serve,” she declared.
The Minister stressed that public service was about tangible impact, not positions or privileges.
“Leadership is not about sitting in offices and enjoying the perks of your position. It is about delivering results, and right now, many of you are simply sleeping on the job,” she charged.
Her remarks come at a time when Accra continues to grapple with challenges such as sanitation, urban planning, and traffic congestion, which largely fall under the remit of MMDCEs.
Madam Ocloo’s comments are seen as a clear signal that underperforming officials may face heightened scrutiny — and possibly sanctions — if they fail to turn their performance around.
