The Office of the President has announced the immediate suspension of contract appointments for retired public service staff.
In a directive dated April 2, 2025, and signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, all post-retirement contract approvals have been put on hold indefinitely.
“The grant of post-retirement contract appointments to retired public service staff has been suspended with immediate effect,” the statement read.
As part of the new directive, all ministries, departments, and government agencies have been instructed to stop requesting or processing such contracts.
“Kindly take note of this directive and ensure strict compliance,” the letter added.
No official explanation was provided for the sudden policy shift, but the move is expected to impact a number of ongoing and pending contract appointments across the public sector.
The suspension could affect various institutions that rely on the expertise of retired personnel, particularly in sectors like education, health, and public administration.
