Mahama announces fund for children of eight helicopter crash victims

The Government of Ghana will today, Monday, November 10, receive the final investigative report on the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight high-ranking government officials and military officers.

The announcement was made by Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who confirmed that the report will be formally presented to the National Security Council for review and policy action.

The tragic incident involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) operated by the Ghana Air Force. The aircraft departed Accra at around 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, bound for Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on an anti-illegal-mining mission before losing radar contact and crashing in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

The investigative committee, chaired by National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak, included representatives from the Ghana Air Force, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and international aviation experts.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated that the findings of the report will be made public during a media briefing on Tuesday, November 11, where the government will share key details and recommendations aimed at strengthening aviation safety and preventing similar tragedies in the future.

“A very important week coming up. The report of the August 6 helicopter tragedy will be presented to the National Security Council today. On Tuesday, the details of the report will be made public at a media briefing,” the minister posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, November 9.

The presentation of the report marks a major step toward providing clarity and closure on the August 6 helicopter tragedy, one of the most devastating aviation incidents in Ghana’s recent history. It is expected to inform policy reforms, operational safety measures, and emergency response improvements within the nation’s security and aviation systems.
