Google Seals $10 Billion Cloud Deal with Meta

Google has secured a landmark six-year cloud computing agreement with Meta Platforms, worth more than US$10 billion, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The deal, first reported by The Information, will see Meta rely on Google Cloud’s servers, storage, networking, and other services to support its rapidly growing artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions. Both companies declined immediate comment.

This marks Google’s second major partnership in recent weeks, following a separate agreement with OpenAI, highlighting the tech giant’s aggressive push to dominate the cloud computing space amid surging demand for AI capacity.

The development comes just weeks after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed that the company plans to spend hundreds of billions of dollars building out AI data centres. In July, Meta raised its annual capital expenditure forecast by $2 billion, now projected between $66 billion and $72 billion.

To ease the financial strain, Meta has been seeking external partners, recently disclosing plans to offload $2 billion in data centre assets to help fund its massive infrastructure buildout.

The Google–Meta deal underscores a broader trend of unlikely collaborations in the AI sector. In June, Reuters reported that OpenAI was considering Google Cloud services to meet its escalating computing needs—despite both companies being rivals in artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has been reaping the rewards of its cloud strategy. The firm’s cloud computing division reported an almost 32% jump in second-quarter revenue in July, far surpassing Wall Street expectations.
