Gold Board Donates GH¢5m, 5 Pick-Up Vehicles to Boost Anti-Galamsey Fight

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH¢5 million and five Toyota Hilux pickups to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to support the government’s intensified fight against illegal mining.

The donation was handed over by the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, in Accra on Monday, September 15, 2025.

Mr Gyamfi said the gesture forms part of GoldBod’s broader initiatives to promote responsible and sustainable mining while preserving the ecological integrity of mining communities.

“The Ghana Gold Board wants to buy more gold for foreign exchange generation, but the gold we buy must be sourced responsibly and mined in ways that protect the environment. Our survival as a people depends on the success of the fight against illegal mining, and we cannot afford to fail,” he stressed.

He further assured that GoldBod would continue to support responsible miners while backing NAIMOS to clamp down on recalcitrant illegal operators.

Receiving the donation, Mr Buah expressed gratitude to GoldBod, describing the support as a major boost in the ongoing battle against “galamsey”.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining the fight until Ghana’s degraded forests are restored and polluted water bodies are rehabilitated.

“Government will not relent. We will sustain this fight until all devastated forests are turned green and our polluted water bodies turned blue again,” the minister declared.
