Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Sam Nartey George (MP), has underscored the critical role of data synchronisation in driving the country’s digital transformation and fostering economic growth.
Hon. George made these remarks when the UK High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson, and her team paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Accra on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Data synchronisation ensures that multiple copies of a dataset remain consistent across different systems or locations. According to Hon. George, this is essential for accurate and up-to-date information, allowing policymakers and stakeholders to make informed decisions.
“Automated data collection reduces manual errors and increases productivity,” he stated.
He added that synchronised data would enhance service delivery across government institutions, making governance more efficient and responsive to citizens’ needs.
The minister emphasised that for Ghana to fully reap the benefits of data synchronisation, the country must:
- Invest in digital infrastructure
- Develop local capacity
- Promote data-driven innovation
- Encourage collaboration among government agencies, the private sector, and civil society.
“By prioritising data synchronisation, Ghana can unlock its full potential and achieve sustainable economic growth and development,” he stressed.
British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson commended Hon. Sam George for his commitment to leveraging technology for economic advancement.
“The UK is keen to collaborate with Ghana in developing its data synchronisation capabilities, and we look forward to exploring opportunities for cooperation in this area,” she noted.
