The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pushed back against fresh allegations that President John Dramani Mahama received three luxury vehicles worth over GH¢5.1 million prior to his swearing-in earlier this year.
The controversy stems from a leaked memo allegedly authored by Kwabena Adu-Boahene, a former Director of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). The memo, reportedly addressed to the National Security Coordinator, claimed that GH¢5,135,000 was disbursed to the special aide of the president-elect for the procurement of the following vehicles:
- Nissan Patrol Platinum
- 2024 Nissan Patrol Titanium
- 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser GXR
The alleged transaction has raised questions about the source of funding, procurement transparency, and potential breach of transition protocols.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on May 9, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, categorically denied the report and dismissed it as a political fabrication orchestrated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I don’t know anything about this. How can that be possible? I know the calibre of the president we have. He won’t stoop that low to this,” he stated.
Dr. Tanko-Computer emphasised that the NDC was unaware of any such disbursement and challenged the authenticity of the memo.
Though the memo has not been independently verified, its circulation has triggered heated debate, with critics of the Mahama administration demanding answers and clarity over how public or private funds may have been used during the presidential transition period.
Meanwhile, government communicators and NDC officials have dismissed the memo as a distraction from what they describe as a “coordinated campaign” to dent President Mahama’s credibility just months into office.
No official response has been issued by the Office of the President or the National Security Secretariat, and efforts to confirm the memo’s authenticity remain ongoing.
