Galamsey Fight: Dormaahene Leads Anti-Galamsey Task Force, Arrests 3 Persons in Major Crackdown

Dormaahene, Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, on Monday, September 15, 2025, has personally led an operation against illegal mining activities on Dormaa stool lands, declaring a zero-tolerance policy for galamsey in his jurisdiction.

Accompanied by the Dormaa Anti-Galamsey Task Force and chiefs from the Dormaa Traditional Council, the paramount chief stormed mining hotspots in Dormaa-Akwamu, Akontanim, and Kobedi. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects and the destruction of seven water pumping machines used in the illegal mining process.

The suspects and confiscated equipment were handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.

Issuing a stern warning after the exercise, the Dormaahene said: “Let this serve as a clear and final warning to all those engaged in this destructive activity. You must cease your operations immediately. If you are caught, you will face the full rigours of the law without any mercy. We will not sit idle and watch our lands, forests, and water bodies be destroyed for selfish, short-term gains.”

Residents and environmental advocates have hailed the move as a decisive intervention, noting that the traditional council’s active involvement sends a strong message of accountability and resolve.

The Dormaahene’s action underscores the growing role of traditional authorities in the national fight against galamsey, complementing efforts by government and security agencies to curb the menace, which continues to devastate farmlands, forests, and rivers across the country.

By directly leading the crackdown, the Dormaahene reaffirmed his commitment to protecting stool lands and preserving natural resources for future generations.
