Rescue operations are underway at Akyem Wenchi in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region after a mining pit collapsed, reportedly killing four young men and leaving about 20 others trapped underground.
Emergency teams from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ambulance Service have been deployed to the site. They are working tirelessly with local volunteers to reach survivors.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but officials say the unstable nature of the terrain is slowing down rescue efforts. Authorities have urged the public to stay clear of the area to ensure safety and support emergency personnel.
This tragic incident adds to growing concerns over illegal and unsafe mining practices across parts of Ghana.
