Personnel from the Akropong Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) carried out a dramatic late-night rescue after a truck crash at Adukrom Waterworks Junction in the Okere District.
The incident, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, involved a KIA Mighty II truck (registration GN 3931-18). According to preliminary reports, the truck lost control while descending the Adukrom–Somanya road due to suspected clutch failure.
The GNFS said it received the emergency call at 11:19 p.m. and dispatched a rescue team led by ASTNO Jerry Kugblenu. On arrival, officers found the driver, 47-year-old Ebenezer Nii Okai Gborbitey, trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
Firefighters managed to extricate him safely and handed him over to the Akuapem North Ambulance Service for urgent medical treatment.
The truck sustained extensive damage in the crash, while its cargo — including 50 bags of cement and other construction materials — was destroyed.
The GNFS noted that the timely intervention of the Akropong rescue team was crucial in saving the driver’s life, underscoring the importance of swift emergency response in road accidents.
