A fierce fire that gutted a cluster of commercial shops selling assorted drinks near the Shell Filling Station at Achimota Abofu has been successfully extinguished, thanks to the swift response of firefighters.
The Anyaa, National Headquarters, Legon, and Madina Fire Stations responded promptly after receiving a distress call at 3:08 p.m. The first fire appliance arrived at 3:29 p.m., with firefighting operations continuing into the evening.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze was confined at 4:55 p.m., brought under control at 5:56 p.m., and completely extinguished by 6:12 p.m.
No injuries or fatalities were recorded. However, several metal containers and their contents were destroyed in the inferno.
Despite the extensive damage, firefighters managed to salvage seven metal containers filled with soft drinks, tissue papers, and other goods, as well as nearby structures — preventing what could have been a major disaster.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but investigations have commenced to ascertain the source and circumstances surrounding the incident.
