Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has met with market women, head porters (kayayei), and other traders at Makola Market to discuss their concerns and expectations ahead of the 2025 Budget presentation on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
Dr. Forson described the engagement as insightful, acknowledging the vital role these traders play in Ghana’s economy.
“It was a privilege to interact with these hard-working Ghanaians who break their backs daily to support our economy,” he said.
Joined by his deputy, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the finance minister addressed key economic issues affecting small-scale traders, including inflation, taxation, and access to credit. He assured them that their concerns would be considered in shaping government policies for the upcoming budget.
“Their expectations ahead of Budget 2025 will help shape our shared future,” he added.
Meanwhile, the government has finalised the 2025 fiscal policy document, which will be presented to Parliament on March 11.
This follows its approval at a special Cabinet meeting on Friday, March 7, reaffirming the government’s commitment to economic stability and sustainable growth.
