The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered the immediate suspension of the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix by Nutrifoods Ghana Limited following serious health and safety violations uncovered at the company’s manufacturing facility.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 3, the FDA explained that the suspension comes after it directed a nationwide recall of all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products, along with selected batches of the product packaged in 380 g and 1.05 kg pouches.
The regulator said the move was triggered by multiple consumer complaints that prompted a full-scale inspection of Nutrifoods’ operations.
“Investigations revealed poor maintenance of critical production equipment and inadequate monitoring systems, which compromised the safety and quality of the tomato mix,” the FDA stated.
The Authority has made it clear that production will not resume until Nutrifoods addresses the identified breaches and implements robust corrective measures that meet regulatory standards.
Meanwhile, the FDA has pledged to intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure full compliance and protect public health.
