The family of Addib Alhassan, a student at Kinbu Technical Senior High School in Accra, is calling for swift justice after he was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow student following a classroom dispute on Wednesday, July 31, 2025.
According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations, the incident unfolded after an altercation between Addib and another student identified only as Musah. The argument is believed to have escalated into violence, culminating in a fatal stabbing that has left the Kinbu school community and the nation reeling in shock.
In a strongly worded statement, Yussif Abdul Salam, an uncle to the deceased, issued an ultimatum to the school authorities, demanding that they produce the alleged assailant by the end of Friday, August 1, or face legal consequences.
“We are not asking for sympathy. We are asking for justice. If by close of day Friday the school does not hand over the suspect, we will explore every legal option,” Mr. Salam told journalists.
Reports indicate that Musah, the alleged attacker, fled the school premises immediately after the incident. Security agencies have since launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend him.
The tension surrounding the case was further heightened on Thursday when a group of enraged youth stormed the school to demand answers, raising concerns over potential reprisals and unrest.
In the wake of the tragedy, authorities from Kinbu Technical SHS, along with officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Klottey Korle Municipal Education Directorate, held a closed-door meeting with the bereaved family on Friday. The meeting aimed to address the family’s concerns and outline steps being taken by school administrators and law enforcement agencies.
While details of the discussions remain confidential, sources say the meeting focused on the progress of the ongoing investigation, the school’s internal disciplinary procedures, and psychological support for students and staff affected by the incident.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of violent episodes in Ghana’s secondary schools. In recent years, educators and parents have raised alarms over increasing reports of student-on-student violence, bullying, drug abuse, and the presence of gangs on campuses.
The Assembly Member for Latebiokorshie, Muntari Wahab, where the deceased student lived, said national security operatives had assured the community that thorough investigations would be conducted and justice served.
“We’ve been assured that everything is being done to apprehend the suspect and get to the bottom of this,” he said in an interview with Adom News.
This tragic death has reignited calls for the Ghana Education Service to intensify safety protocols and install more comprehensive conflict resolution systems in schools. Many have urged that professional counsellors be assigned to schools, along with regular training for teachers on managing student behaviour and mental health issues.
The GES has yet to issue an official statement, but insiders say a policy review on school security measures may be imminent.
For Addib Alhassan’s family, however, the immediate priority remains clear: justice.
“This should never have happened. If it’s not Addib, it could be someone else’s child next,” Mr. Salam said.
