‘Entire Nation Profoundly Shocked’ – Akufo-Addo Mourns Helicopter Crash Victims

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo has expressed deep shock and grief over the military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, which claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

In a solemn statement, the former president described the incident as a national tragedy and extended heartfelt sympathies to President John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the bereaved families.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the President, the leadership of the NDC, and, above all, the families of the victims. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort in this period of great sorrow,” the statement read.

The ill-fated Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter, which was carrying five government officials and three crew members, crashed in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve near Adansi Brofoyedru while en route to Obuasi. All occupants perished, and the wreckage was found burnt beyond recognition.

National mourning continues, with flags flying at half-mast across the country as investigations into the cause of the crash proceed.
