The Ministry of Education has instructed the National Teaching Council (NTC) to conduct a final sitting of the existing teacher licensure examination no later than August 30, 2025.
The directive was given by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly constituted NTC Board. He emphasised that the upcoming examination would be the last under the current format and urged the Council to work closely with its Registrar to finalise arrangements promptly.
“If there is a last opportunity for those who sat and couldn’t make it, that process should not travel beyond 30th August,” the Minister stressed.
This move comes as part of a broader transition plan to phase out the standardised licensure exams in favour of a new framework focused on academic training and practical classroom fieldwork.
Minister Iddrisu commended the board’s proposals to reform teacher assessment and highlighted the importance of aligning teacher preparation more closely with real-world teaching conditions.
