Driver Arrested After Tragic Hit-and-Run Kills Two Former Achimota School Students

The driver responsible for the hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of two former Achimota School students, Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli, has been arrested, according to family sources.

The fatal incident occurred on the night of March 7, 2025, along the Achimota Highway. The two young women, both members of the Old Achimotan Association 2024 (OAA24) and former residents of Stopford House, were struck by a speeding vehicle as they made their way back to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), after attending Achimota School’s annual bonfire celebration.

Confirming the arrest, Davida’s aunt, Alice Safoa, revealed that the driver was apprehended after a police chase.

“The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. According to the police, the driver was arrested after a chase. However, the hospital staff later said the driver sought refuge there, fearing an attack from eyewitnesses. After his arrest, he was taken to the hospital because he wasn’t well, but he has since recovered and been sent back to the police cells,” she told Channel One TV.

Eyewitnesses say the driver of a black Toyota Corolla hit the two victims and fled the scene without stopping to assist them. Bystanders rushed Davida and Lilian to the hospital, where they arrived at about 12:02 a.m. Sadly, Davida was pronounced dead around 4 a.m. on March 8, while Lilian succumbed later that morning.

Their tragic deaths have sent shockwaves through the Achimota School community and their peers at UPSA, leading to renewed calls for stricter road safety measures along the Achimota Highway.

Following the devastating loss, the Old Achimotan Association 2024 issued a statement on March 8, confirming the passing of their members and extending heartfelt condolences to their grieving families.

As investigations continue, many are calling for swift justice and immediate government action to enhance pedestrian safety on major roads to prevent future tragedies.
