Digitise Africa, Globalise Africa”: Deputy Minister Champions Tech-Driven AfCFTA at CEO’s Connect Summit

The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP), has underscored that Africa’s ability to thrive under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) depends heavily on harnessing digital technology, innovation, and strong partnerships.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the sector minister at the Africa Business Festival’s CEO’s Connect Summit in Accra on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the deputy minister said technology has moved from being an option to becoming the backbone of competitiveness, resilience, and Africa’s global relevance.

Commending the organisers—Enzee Events and the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce—for creating a vital platform for dialogue between policymakers, entrepreneurs, and investors, he stressed that AfCFTA’s promise of a unified African market cannot be achieved without a strong digital foundation.

“Under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is actively implementing bold policies and investments to establish a digitally enabled economy, ranging from e-governance platforms to digital financial inclusion and broadband expansion into rural communities, ensuring no one is left behind,” Hon. Sukparu stated.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to nurturing startups, FinTechs, and entrepreneurs to position Ghana as a hub for business and technology on the continent. He urged African nations to move beyond being passive consumers of imported technologies and instead invest in becoming creators, producers, and innovators.

He emphasised that e-commerce and digital platforms are critical in unlocking new markets, scaling businesses globally, and transforming entire industries across the continent. “The future of African business lies in digital trade and innovation,” he declared.

Hon. Sukparu further called for deeper collaboration between governments, the private sector, and academia, stressing that only resilient, inclusive digital economies will secure Africa’s competitive place in the global marketplace.

Closing his remarks with a strong rallying call, the Deputy Minister affirmed, “The future of Africa’s business lies not just in its markets but in its innovation. If we digitise Africa, we globalise Africa.”

He expressed gratitude to the summit’s organisers for the initiative and urged participants to ensure that the conversations lead to actionable outcomes that will accelerate Africa’s digital and trade transformation.
