The Municipal Chief Executive for Krachi East, Hon. Sarfo Nketia, has announced plans to give Dambai market a modern makeover, enabling it to operate on a 24-hour basis.
This development comes as Dambai has taken on a new role as the regional capital, necessitating a befitting market.
The new market will boast several amenities, including
– Recreational Areas: Spaces for relaxation and entertainment
– Fire Post: Enhanced safety measures for market users
– Police Post: Improved security for traders and customers
– Clinic: Basic healthcare services for the community
– School Facility: Educational infrastructure for residents
– Accommodation for Travellers: Lodging options for visitors
Hon. Sarfo Nketia believes the modern facility will not only increase revenue mobilization for the assembly but also boost tourism in the area. With its strategic location, Dambai market is poised to become a hub for economic activity in the region.
The Krachi East Municipal Assembly has already made significant strides in developing the market. In 2022, the assembly handed over completed lockable stores to traders, aiming to ease congestion and promote robust business activities. Phase three of the Dambai market project is currently underway, funded by the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme.
Despite the progress, traders and residents have faced challenges, including a recent surge in yam prices and flooding from the River Oti, which submerged parts of the market and affected over 700 people. The assembly’s efforts to modernize the market aim to address these issues and create a more sustainable and thriving commercial center.
