Cassiel Ato Forson Appointed Majority Leader of Ghana’s 9th Parliament

Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, Majority Leader of the 9th Parliament

The Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been officially named the Majority Leader of Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

This appointment follows the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus’s decision to retain its leadership from the previous parliamentary session.

Dr. Forson, who played a pivotal role as the minority leader during the 8th Parliament, will now lead the majority caucus. His leadership is supported by key appointments within the NDC parliamentary hierarchy:

These appointments reflect the NDC’s commitment to continuity and experience in navigating legislative responsibilities.

The leadership appointments align with President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s recommendation for the NDC caucus to nominate Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament. Speaker Bagbin, who served as Speaker during the 8th Parliament, has been instrumental in fostering unity within the NDC and ensuring effective parliamentary governance.

The decision to retain the NDC’s front-bench leadership was finalised during a caucus meeting held after the dissolution of the 8th Parliament at midnight on January 6, 2025.

This strategic move underscores the party’s confidence in its current leadership team to address the challenges of the new parliamentary term.

The NDC’s leadership team is expected to leverage their experience to advance the party’s legislative agenda and ensure robust representation in the 9th Parliament.
