The Eastern South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Alhaji Sofo Azorka, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in connection with an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the third National Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The incident reportedly occurred during the Akwatia by-election on September 2, 2025.
Police officials disclosed that Alhaji Azorka was arrested in Tamale on Wednesday, September 10, and later granted bail after giving a caution statement. He has been directed to report to the Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10 a.m., where he will be formally arraigned.
“The suspect has been cautioned and released on bail to report to the Regional Command on the said date,” the police statement read.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of impartial and thorough investigations into the matter.
“We wish to assure the public that thorough investigations will be conducted into the matter. The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in maintaining law and order. We entreat all parties and the general public to remain calm as we continue with our investigations and communicate further developments in due course,” the statement added.
