The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has announced that an NDC government will abolish politically influenced recruitment into Ghana’s security services and replace it with a transparent, merit-based system.
Speaking in the Akatsi North constituency on Thursday, October 16, 2025, as part of his thank-you tour, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the current recruitment process has been tainted by partisanship, undermining professionalism within the country’s security institutions.
“We will make sure that our security services are properly balanced, even regionally,” he said. “We are departing from a system where people are recruited based on their surnames to ensure that the services are truly representative and professional.”
He emphasised that under an NDC administration, competence and qualification—not political connections—will determine who joins the security services, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all Ghanaians.
Mr Asiedu Nketia stressed that the NDC’s policy aims to build a credible and transparent recruitment process that reflects Ghana’s rich diversity and strengthens national cohesion.
He added that a merit-driven security structure will boost public trust and ensure that the armed and protective forces remain loyal to the state rather than any political party.
“This reform will inspire confidence in our security institutions and guarantee their neutrality in the service of the nation,” he noted.
